A Message from Amigos President & CEO Miguel Figueroa
Some recent member library visits in Dallas highlighted interest in training for staff at all levels. Over the past year, we have worked to introduce new professional development offerings that are accessible and relevant to staff across the library. These include upcoming sessions in our Essentials series (Workplace Communication on December 18 and Conducting the Reference Interview on January 9), continued availability of our popular Know & Go series (Recovering from a Wind and Rain Event on December 16), and our schedule of online conferences (The People-Powered Library on February 10) – all of which are free for staff at Amigos member libraries. We also continue our partnership with NISO’s webinar series to bring even more specialized content (Authentication and Browser Changes on December 11) to your library as a free member benefit – just register as a NISO member and NISO will recognize your library as part of the Library Standard Alliance through Amigos.
We hope you and your staff will also notice an improved registration process that helps individuals more easily indicate their library's membership in Amigos and take advantage of free and discounted sessions.
We appreciate your continued engagement with Amigos and hope that you will reach out at membership@amigos.org or email me directly at figueroa@amigos.org to talk about your training needs or how Amigos can partner with your library for new solutions.
Registration Closing Soon for Developing Community Support through Creative Partnerships, an Amigos Community Conversation
Registration is closing soon for Amigos' newest Community Conversations series installment, Developing Community Support through Creative Partnerships (December 11). Community Conversations are free and are available exclusively to members.
Creating connections between libraries and local organizations is a foundational part of serving the community. For the new director or librarian, however, this kind of outreach can feel overwhelming and intimidating. In this Community Conversation, a panel of library directors will share their insights on the fundamentals of identifying potential community partners and creating beneficial relationships that bring in new users.
